“Verily I say unto you, the era of the sword and axe is nigh, the era of the wolf's blizzard. The Time of the White Chill and the White Light is nigh, the Time of Madness and the Time of Contempt: Tedd Deireádh, the Time of End.” —Ithlinne’s Prophecy

The words of this prophecy sealed the entangled fates of two people together; Cirilla princess of Cintra and a witcher Geralt of Rivia. Geralt’s story, written by Andrzej Sapkowski, is one of my favorites. It follows his journey through the Continent plying his trade as a monster hunter (dubbed ‘witchers’) and his desperate quest to protect his ward Ciri.
For this piece I knew that I would feature Geralt’s silver sword engraved and inlayed with 24kt runes surrounded by rubies. For a man who’s trade was in the death or expulsion of monsters rubies seemed an appropriate choice. The centerpiece is an illustrious garnet cut by @gemstonealchemy. Perhaps it was the similarity between the name of the stone and the name of our hero, but this garnet’s depth of colour and the way it shifts from stark crimson to a deep earthy red made it the perfect choice for this piece. Accenting the sides are gradient sapphire clusters to signify the White Frost creeping ever closer. On the back are two animals, an 18kt gold sparrow for Ciri (who the elves call Zireael, meaning ‘sparrow’) and a silver wolf encrusted with diamonds for Geralt who is called the White Wolf.
Sapkowski borrowed heavily from Slavic folklore for his stories. The early books especially read almost like Grimm’s fairytales-meets-Van Helsing or a particularly violent Shrek. For this pendant I borrowed the visage of Fenrir for my White Wolf and huge the piece on a style of chain once used to weave Norse Torcs.
The pendant it’s self is made of sterling silver, 14kt, 18kt, and 24kt gold. It hangs on a 24in hand made sterling silver viking knit chain with 14kt gold accents. It features a 2.4ct fantasy cut garnet, 70 rubies, 56 blue sapphires, 13 SI diamonds, and a garnet teardrop.
