—The Pendragon—
He is the patriarch; a symbol of justice, leadership, and service.
Legends and folk tales often tell of a swords of great power wielded by a heroes in who’s hands they go on to accomplish mighty feats. These tales have many origins and many characters, but as a symbol in all the sword represents valor, leadership, and bravery.
The name for this piece comes from the ancestral name for King Arthur Pendragon, the legendary leader of Britain who lead his armies against invading Saxons in the late 5th century. According to the story, the sword Caliburn (later called Excalibur) was bestowed on Arthur by the Lady of the Lake after his sword was shattered in battle. A nimbus of cool Tanzanites surround this piece as a representation of where this symbol was drawn from. A series of white Topaz are set within the crest belt and in the scroll embellishments. Finally, vivid rubellite Tourmalines make up the centerpiece and remaining accent stones. As with the others in this series, this was also inspired by an alchemical element, Spirit.

This is the third piece of my new Arcane Series. The root inspiration for this series was traditional Scottish clan badges, a symbol of heraldry wrapped in a belt that signifies the deeds of values of it’s family. I took this symbol as my starting point for each piece, creating a representation for the societal role each piece represents. My fascination with modern fantasy and obsession with symbolism fueled my imagination. I began crafting a compilation of symbols borrowed from Ancient Greece, the Celtic Druids, Norse Shamanism, Arthurian legends, the Rider Waite tarot of the 1900s, and entirely fictional representations of my own making.
As for the actual construction of each piece, I set the goal for myself to step outside of my usual scrolling comfort zone and sculpt and/or engrave representational 3D objects; the human figure, gnarled wood grains, thistles, medieval weaponry, and other new hurdles. Each of these pieces was 100% cut and sculpted from silver sheet and wire, with no casting or computer related design help.
